The science of hot and cold therapy……Saunas, in particular, have been linked to improved cardiovascular health, reduced blood pressure, and enhanced immune function through increased production of white blood cells. Regular sauna use has also been associated with reduced stress and better mood, likely due to endorphin release and relaxation of the nervous system. Cold Therapy (cold plunge): Cold exposure triggers vasoconstriction, reducing inflammation and swelling. It can also stimulate the production of norepinephrine, which has been linked to improved focus and mood. Regular cold immersion has been shown to enhance resilience to stress, support muscle recovery, and boost metabolism by activating brown fat, which burns calories to generate heat. Combined Benefits: Alternating hot and cold therapy may enhance circulation by promoting rapid vasodilation and vasoconstriction cycles. This boosts oxygen delivery to tissues and accelerates waste removal. The combination is thought to improve recovery, reduce soreness, and support mental well-being.
